Transformers Is Officially Replacing The Decepticons In Eternal War

The Transformers franchise continues to go from strength to strength when you look at it in an overall capacity, even if we have been a little lacking in TV and movie adaptations over the last few years. A big part of that is physical merchandise, where thousands of fans continue to expand their collections every day, but video games haven't been left out of the proverbial party either.

The most recent mainstream effort was Transformers: Galactic Trials, an arcade racing and robot combat fusion rogue-lite that dropped back in 2024. Hasbro has also helpfully confirmed that new titles are actively in development right now, with the goal of expanding the franchise's gaming presence after years of relative neglect when compared to other portions of the franchise.

Now, one of the other new upcoming projects has revealed a lot about what fans can expect, and there's one drastic change in particular that could make it one of the most interesting entries in years.

A New Enemy Emerges

In case you missed the announcement, Transformers: Eternal War is an upcoming idle RPG adventure mobile game that is currently open for pre-registration. There's a lot to get into, but the biggest revelation from everything that has been revealed so far is that players won't be taking on the Decepticons this time around.

The Decepticons have served as the main antagonists in just about every major adaptation to date so far, but this time around they have been replaced by a nefarious new faction known as the Chaos Legion. This new threat comes about as essentially a corrupted faction empowered by unstable chaos energy, which can only be a bad thing for the morally sound Autobots.

This new enemy is so much of a threat that the Autobots and Decepticons set aside their differences to work as one against them, which is a pretty remarkable thing given just how much has gone on between the two sides in their eternal war.

The basic hook is that the game is a squad-based gacha RPG where you need to assemble a team of five bots and use them in real-time tactical battles. The game features five classes which your squad members could fall into, as well as a trait system, and combining these correctly and efficiently will be crucial to you having any success.

There are also base building and upgrade mechanics, though the monetization of both that and the squad mechanics actually seems relatively F2P-friendly at the time of writing.

Plenty More Transformers Is On The Way

While you're playing that, it's worth bearing in mind that Paramount and Hasbro supposedly have another franchise film in the works, written by Jason Fuchs (of IT: Welcome to Derry fame). It aims to continue the story following 2023's Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and it could have those GI Joe crossover elements, though that's unconfirmed at this stage.
