Filmax Takes Javier Giner’s Feature Debut ‘This Solitude’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Filmax has taken international rights to “This Solitude,” the feature debut of “I, Addict” creator Javier Giner. The Spanish sales company will introduce the drama to buyers at TIFF before its premiere in San Sebastián’s New Directors section.

The pickup gives Filmax the first feature from a filmmaker whose profile rose with 2024 Disney+ series “I, Addict,” the acclaimed adaptation of Giner’s own experiences.

“This Solitude” reunites Giner with International Emmy-winning actor Oriol Pla, who starred in the series; Marina Salas (“Join Me for Breakfast”) also stars. Giner co-wrote the film with Luisa Matienzo.

Pla and Salas play Leo and Lorea, a couple struggling to move on after their five-year relationship ends. Set in Bilbao, the drama follows them on parallel paths as Leo copes with his father’s illness and growing emotional disconnection, while Lorea navigates precarious jobs and personal crises as she tries to rebuild her life.

Iván Díaz, head of international at Filmax, said Giner has generated “a great deal of attention and interest, both in Spain and in other territories” thanks to “I, Addict,” which “worked really well for Disney.”
