DC Reveals Lobo's New Villain Group, And It's Absolutely Wild

The Czarnian known as Lobo spends time with a lot of unsavory characters. That’s to be expected given that he’s one of the most feared bounty hunters in the DC universe, not to mention his numerous crimes, including killing nearly the entirety of his species. The Justice League and other DC superheroes certainly don’t welcome his presence, although that hasn’t stopped the occasional team-up, like Lobo recently appearing alongside Batman in Detective Comics 2026 Annual #1.

Yet, even hulking, cigar-smoking, foul-mouthed alien powerhouses need time to relax among familiar, if not necessarily friendly faces. Lobo’s getting to do just that in the next issue of his solo series, as DC has revealed a new villain group for the supervillain/anti-hero that has a surprising assortment of characters.

Lobo Has A Special Game Night Group

The preview for Lobo #7 shows a sketchy-looking house in a corner of the cosmos that is clearly not welcome to uninvited guests. It’s here that the cockroach-looking Maynard, the house’s resident and owner of Maynard’s Garage, is hosting a game night that includes Lobo, Space Cabbie, Granny Goodness, Ambush Bug, Billy the Girl, Paranoid Jones, and Thak. As they’re playing an unspecified board game, Lobo’s dog, Dawg, and an equally-freaky feline creature are growling and hissing at each other, prompting Maynard to tell them to shut up.

Some of these characters, like Female Furies leader Granny Goodness and Ambush Bug, don’t have any direct ties to Lobo, although the latter fourth wall-breaking character was also created by Keith Giffen. Others, like Billy the Girl and Paranoid Jones, go back decades with The Main Man. In Space Cabbie’s case, Lobo once stole his cab and left him to take the fall for his crimes, though to his credit, the bounty hunter later saved the taxi driver.

Lobo May Not Enjoy This Game Night Group For Long

Rather than these characters banding together to battle a superhero, take control of a planet, or pull off a heist, they’re simply hanging out with each other to enjoy playing games for a few hours. It’s unclear how long these game nights have been going on, as well as if everyone in attendance behaves during these periods, or if fights frequently break out during them. In any case, it looks like Lobo seemingly won’t be part of the group for much longer.

Lobo #7 kicks off an arc called “The Last Death of Lobo,” and it’s left unspecified how long this storyline will last. The solicitation for the issue states that this arc will reveal “the unstoppable force that will totally, permanently kill fraggin’ Lobo.” One of his many superpowers is a healing factor that makes him essentially immortal. It was even established in the previous issue that Lobo’s been banned from Hell if he finds another way into the afterlife.

So it’s bold for DC to announce that Lobo is being killed off, though considering how comedic the character’s solo stories usually are, this should be met with skepticism. Based off the solicitations for Lobo #8 and #9, the titular character will meet his demise at the hands of Francis Dalex, a.k.a. the Blood Garnet Lantern. However, it’s not a stretch to speculate that Lobo will eventually be brought back to life in an amusing way.

In fact, it’s already been revealed that Lobo’s ghost will stick around, so the character’s not going away entirely. Loboo, as he’s being called, might still participate in these game nights, albeit with someone moving the board game pieces for him. If not, then the group will need to find another DC villain-turned-antihero to take Lobo’s place at the table.

Lobo #7 will be released Wednesday, September 16 by DC Comics.
