Fenesta Open 2026: Khushi Kadian completes title hat-trick, Puneeth Manohar wins U-14 double

Haryana’s Khushi Kadian completed a hat-trick of titles at the 31st Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship, while Karnataka’s Puneeth Manohar secured the boys’ U-14 singles crown to complete a double at the DLTA Complex in New Delhi on Saturday.

Kadian, who had won the girls’ U-16 doubles title alongside Tamil Nadu’s Sanmitha Harini on Friday, added two singles titles to her tally on the final day.

She began with a 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 victory over Ranjhana Sangram in the girls’ U-16 final before defeating second seed Siddhi Pandey 6-3, 6-2 in the U-14 title clash, which lasted one hour and 16 minutes.

The Haryana youngster, who played 15 matches during the week, described the achievement as particularly satisfying after an injury had prevented her from fulfilling her ambition of winning the U-12 Nationals a few years ago.

Kadian credited her parents and coaches for their support throughout the tournament.

Meanwhile, second seed Puneeth defeated Telangana’s fifth seed Satya Chintagunta 6-3, 6-2 in the boys’ U-14 singles final, which lasted one hour and 28 minutes.

The Karnataka player had partnered Maharashtra’s Aarav Chhallani to win the U-14 doubles title on Friday. The top-seeded pair defeated second seeds Adeshbir Ghuman of Punjab and Sparsh Patil of Maharashtra 6-2, 6-2 in the final.

Puneeth, who had also achieved a singles and doubles double at the ATF U-14 Grade A South Asia event earlier this year, said he would now shift his focus towards the U-18 World Tennis Tour.

In the boys’ U-16 singles final, Chandigarh’s top seed Ribhav Saroha defeated unseeded Yashwin Dahiya 6-2, 6-3 in one hour and 32 minutes.

Saroha, who had claimed the U-18 singles crown the previous weekend, completed his second singles title triumph at the championship.

Amruta wins silver as Indian women end U-23 Worlds with two medals

Amruta Pujari settled for a silver medal after losing the women’s 72kg final ‘by fall’ to Ukraine’s Iryna Zablotska, as Indian women concluded their campaign with two medals at the U23 World Wrestling Championships.

Amruta was trailing 0-6 when Zablotska managed a decisive pin to seal the gold medal.

India’s Sweety came close to adding another medal but lost the 53kg bronze medal play-off by technical superiority (0-11) to Ukraine’s Anastasiia Polska.

Sweety had reached the bronze medal bout after edging past China’s Xiaotong Zeng 11-10 in the repechage round.

Vaishnavi Patil, however, failed to capitalise on her repechage opportunity, going down 2-4 to Japan’s Haruka Kobaru.

Komal had earlier won a bronze medal in the women’s 59kg weight category.

The Indian men’s freestyle wrestlers, meanwhile, endured a disappointing campaign with none of the five competitors in action managing to reach the medal rounds on Friday.

Vaibhav Patil was knocked out of the 61kg competition after losing his pre-quarterfinal bout by technical superiority (0-11) to Romania’s Gabriel Whisenhunt.

In the 74kg category, Adarsh Patil bowed out following a 4-6 defeat to Japan’s Toki Ogawal in the round of 16.

Amit’s campaign in the 86kg division also ended in the round of 16. He lost by fall to Georgia’s Tornike Samkharadze while trailing 3-4.

Nikhil suffered a similar fate in the 92kg category, losing his round-of-16 bout by technical superiority to Georgia’s Sandro Kurashvili.

In the heavyweight 125kg division, Ronak Dahya exited after losing his quarterfinal bout by technical superiority (1-11) to Azerbaijan’s Khetag Karsanov.

In a below par show, India have so far won just three medals in the tournament with Greco Roman wrestler Vishvajit More winning a silver in the 55kg division.
