The Expanse has become one of the most popular sci-fi television series in modern history, despite being officially cancelled and brought back from the dead in one of the genre's most epic comeback stories. Originally airing on Syfy, the series was cancelled in 2018 after three seasons, prompting an enormous fan campaign calling for another network or streamer to save it. Those efforts miraculously paid off, with Amazon Prime Video picking it up for a fourth season and continuing the story for three more years before giving it a proper conclusion with season 6 in 2022.

In hindsight, saving The Expanse proved to be one of the best decisions Prime Video ever made, as the series earned widespread critical acclaim throughout its run on the network. It developed an intensely loyal fanbase and is now regularly cited among standout modern science-fiction shows. And now, The Expanse series is set to make an official return in August 2027 with an absolutely massive new release.

More than five years after The Expanse aired its series finale, the acclaimed sci-fi show is officially returning with a huge new release (literally) celebrating its complete television run. Titan Books has announced The Expanse: The Complete Visual History, a massive 320-page hardcover retrospective scheduled to release in the US/UK on August 17, 2027. Written by Mike Avila, the book is being billed as a "comprehensive behind-the-scenes look" at all six seasons of the television series.

According to Titan, The Complete Visual History will revisit how The Expanse was actually created, beginning with the original James S.A. Corey novels and following their transformation into the television universe fans ultimately saw on screen. The oversized coffee-table book will feature concept art, production photography, and detailed looks at the ships, locations, and worlds that helped give the adaptation its distinctive identity.

That includes material exploring the different visual approaches used to represent Earth, Mars, and the Belt, the three major futuristic civilizations whose political and cultural differences became fundamental to the series. There will also be plenty here beyond production artwork, as Titan says the book includes exclusive interviews with members of the cast and creative team, including writers, designers, and the original show-runners.

Those conversations will dig into the creative choices and technical hurdles behind the series, along with the way its themes and story evolved over six seasons. The companion book will offer a fascinating glimpse at how The Expanse's creators managed to hold everything together through the network transition, etc.

The book itself is physically massive as well, with The Complete Visual History measuring roughly 10.75 by 11.94 inches and totaling 320 pages, as mentioned. It has a relatively modest list price of $75 in the U.S. and Canada or roughly £60 in the UK and other listed territories. Titan is already directing readers to a number of major retailers for the release, though it appears only UK pre-orders are live right now on sites like Forbidden Planet, Waterstones, and Bookshop.

It may not be another television season, but The Complete Visual History is one of the biggest and most comprehensive celebrations of the show since The Expanse ended in 2022. With all six seasons covered in one enormous volume and unique BTS images and exclusive interviews, the August 2027 release should give longtime fans a reason to revisit the series.
