Dungeon Crawler Carl Officially Replaces Carl As Lead Character In New Adventure

Since it was self-published by author Matt Dinniman back in 2020, the Dungeon Crawler Carl LitRPG book series has cemented itself as a cultural phenomenon. Now with eight books under its belt, and plenty more to follow, the franchise is only just beginning, with graphic novels, audiobooks, board games, and even a television series adaptation currently in the works.

After an alien corporation takes control of all of the Earth's resources, Carl and his ex-girlfriend's cat, Princess Donut, are forced to enter into a dungeon crawl inspired by an intergalactic reality show program.

With over 14 million copies of the book series sold as of July 2026, Dungeon Crawler Carl tops the charts when it comes to the LitRPG genre, and with plenty of releases in the pipeline, it is safe to say that this is only the beginning of the epic sci-fi saga.

Not only can we expect a television adaptation courtesy of Peacock, but a TTRPG experience is also set to launch this November, titled Dungeon Crawler Carl: Unstoppable. However, that is not all, as Carl is about to get replaced in another upcoming release.

Shared on Matt Dinniman's official website, fans can look forward to "Mama's Night Off" courtesy of Maeve Chocolate. In this Princess Donut flash game, featuring freshly recorded audio from Jeff Hays of SoundBooth Theater, fans will get to celebrate the launch of its new Virgin Dirty Shirley bar by experiencing a once-in-a-lifetime Dungeon Crawler Carl story.

"Maeve Chocolate built you a game. With lasers," the event synopsis reads. "Princess Donut has laser eyes, and you have 30 seconds to use them responsibly. Shoot as many cherries as possible and see how high you can push your score before time runs out!

"NEW ACHIEVEMENT! Rabid Fan! You guys are some crazy fans. The amount of feet pictures we’ve received is…..concerning. We’re starting to think this may be a cult….and we want in!"

By playing, you will get to share your high score with other players, "or lie about your score. That’s also allowed." In the flash game inspired by Dungeon Crawler Carl, players will take on the role of Princess Donut, and stars the adorable feline as she shoots missiles at falling cherries. It may be simple, but thanks to some incredible voice acting work, it is definitely memorable.

Not only that, but this marks the first "video game" inspired by the world of Dungeon Crawler Carl, although we can definitely expect it to not be the last.
