'I am not The One': Suriya says 'The One' is not just his title but collective identity; recalls Nadippin Nayagan tag

'I am not The One'_ Suriya says 'The One' is not just his title but a collective identity.

The 'Scene' actor Suriya has explained why his latest title, 'The One', holds a special place in his heart. During the audio launch of his upcoming Tamil film 'Scene', the actor said the name represents the collective bond he shares with his fans.

He clarified that he does not consider it an individual identity or a personal tagline.Over the years, Suriya has been associated with several titles, including Nadippin Nayagan . However, he believes 'The One', which was entitled to him after the release of 'Retro', carries a different significance. According to the actor, the title reflects the unity between him and the people who have supported his journey. He also spoke about their unconditional affection and promised to continue entertaining them through his films.

Suriya explains why 'The One' represents everyone

During his speech, Suriya explained that the title should not be understood as a name that sets him apart from his supporters. Instead, he considers it a representation of their collective identity."My connection with The One... I am not The One, it is The One because we are all one. We are one. In my mind, I don't see it as my name, my tagline. But I see it as... The One is all of us. Only with all of us it becomes The One," he said, as quoted by India Today.

Actor describes his fans as one big family

Suriya also spoke about the affection he has received from his supporters over the years. He described their connection as a family bond and said their love had remained unconditional. The actor acknowledged that a simple expression of gratitude would not be enough to recognise their continued support."So, for me, it is always that way. We are one, we are one family. This love is unconditional for so many years. One thank you will never do justice.

I will always surrender (to you all), I will always be with you all, I will keep entertaining you on screen," he added. He assured the audience that he would continue to remain connected with them through his work.

Suriya asks fans whether he should retain the title

The actor also involved the audience in deciding whether 'The One' should continue to be part of his public identity. He sought their opinion about retaining the title during the audio launch. The moniker became associated with Suriya following his collaboration with filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj on 'Retro'.

The audience responded positively when he brought up the subject, making their preference clear. Suriya acknowledged the enthusiastic reaction and agreed to continue using the title.

'Scene' marks Suriya's third release of 2026

Meanwhile, 'Scene' marks Suriya's third theatrical release of 2026, following 'Karuppu' and 'Vishwanath and Sons'. Written and directed by Jithu Madhavan, the upcoming Tamil action-comedy also stars Nazriya Nazim and Naslen.Suriya plays DSP Inbaraj, while Nazriya Nazim appears as Maya and Naslen portrays Eeswaran. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on November 6, 2026.
