James Cameron is the only director with three $2 billion+ movies worldwide

Cameron has given Hollywood its biggest blockbusters. He is the only filmmaker to have three $2 billion+ movies at the box office worldwide. At #1 is Avatar with $2.9 billion global haul, and it is also the all-time highest-grossing film. The second installment in the Avatar franchise, Avatar: The Way of Water, has also crossed the $2 billion mark worldwide. It was released more than a decade after the first film and is currently the 4th-highest-grossing film worldwide.

According to Box Office Mojo, Avatar: The Way of Water collected $2.33 billion worldwide. Spider-Man: Brand New Day pushed it out of the all-time top 3 grossers. The third James Cameron movie to have earned over $2 billion is Titanic. It is considered a classic, having collected $2.26 billion worldwide in its lifetime, making it the only filmmaker to have given three $2 billion+ movies.

Besides James Cameron, the Russo brothers are the only directors with two $2 billion+ movies, but they also could not match James’ extraordinary streak. But they are getting an opportunity to replicate Cameron’s blockbuster record. Avengers: Doomsday marks their return to the MCU, and there is a lot of buzz around it. It has crossed the $50 million mark in domestic pre-sales, as per reports.

Avengers: Doomsday has the potential to help the Russo brothers match James Cameron’s blockbuster streak. Like the previous two Avengers movies, this one is also expected to cross the $2 billion milestone worldwide. For the unversed, Avengers: Endgame collected $2.79 billion and Avengers: Infinity War collected $2.05 billion.

What is Avengers: Doomsday about?

The film follows heroes from three different universes as they unite 14 months after the events of Thunderbolts to confront the existential threat posed by Doctor Doom. The Avengers, Wakandans, and New Avengers from Earth-616 join forces with the Fantastic Four from Earth-828 and the original X-Men from another universe. Avengers: Doomsday, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, will be released on December 18.
