Lawyers of former Speaker Lord Allan Velasco on Monday arrived at the National Bureau of Investigation in compliance with an invitation the NBI issued regarding the allegations of cash delivery made by former police patrolman Rodulfo Gracioso Jr.

NBI Director Melvin Matibag previously said the bureau will invite Velasco as well as Vice President Sara Duterte and Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo "Pulong" Duterte to get their comments on the allegations of Gracioso.

To recall, Gracioso previously claimed to have delivered cash to Sara Duterte, Paolo Duterte, and former president Rodrigo Duterte on Velasco’s instructions.

Gracioso also mentioned in his affidavit that Velasco got the cash he delivered to some personalities including VP Sara Duterte from former Ako Bicol party-list Representative Zaldy Co, husband-and-wife contractors Sarah and Curlee Discaya, and Marikina 2nd District Representative Miro Quimbo.

Co and the Discayas have been charged in connection with flood control project scandal cases.

Velasco’s camp said the allegations against him had “no basis.”

Vice President Duterte has also since denied the allegations, saying she does not know Gracioso and had not received money from him.

Her camp said she will also not be able to answer the invite. Her lawyers requested first for a copy of Gracioso’s affidavit and enough time to examine it.

Former presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo, meanwhile, said the claim that suitcases containing cash were delivered to the Duterte family is a “fabricated story” to oust and disqualify VP Sara Duterte in the 2028 elections.

The camp of "Curlee" Discaya II denied that he gave money to Velasco.

Atty. Cornelio Samaniego III said that he has spoken to his client about the matter.

Samaniego said Discaya did not hand over cash and that he denied any involvement in the issue. He added that Discaya also does not know Gracioso.

GMA News has tried getting a statement from Quimbo but he has yet to issue one.

The Department of Justice said it will also take into account the credibility and motivation of dismissed policeman Gracioso in evaluating his claims. —Joahna Lei Casilao/KG, GMA News
