Fan Asks Sachin Tendulkar About 'Favourite Captain' He Played Under. His Reply

One of the greatest cricketers to have ever played the game, Sachin Tendulkar knows what it means to lead a team in the sport. While Tendulkar himself led the Indian team for a brief period, he produced his best under the captaincy of others like Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni. Tendulkar has even had the experience of seeing other great captains like Kapil Dev, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma in action. During a Q&A session, Tendulkar was asked about the favourite captain he played under, and his response was on expected lines.
A fan asked on Reddit: "How was your experience captaining the Indian Test side and how difficult was it for you to adapt to the role? How would you rate Temba Bavuma as a captain, specifically in Test cricket? Also, who was personally your favourite captain to play under?"
For Tendulkar, there were two clear picks as far as captaincy is concerned - Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni. It was under Ganguly that Tendulkar played in the 2003 ODI World Cup final. But, it was under Dhoni that he won the trophy in 2011.
"It was a great honour to lead the team as captain. However, I did not always have the freedom to pick my team entirely on my own. The BCCI today is a far more professional organisation than it was in the 1990s. Indian cricket also went through a particularly dark phase during that period," Tendulkar said.
"I truly admire Temba Bavuma's spirit. He has led from the front and delivered some remarkable results for South African cricket. South Africa winning an ICC title is great for world cricket!"
"As far as my favourite captains go, Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni would definitely be at the top of my list!" Tendulkar said.
Tendulkar himself captained India in 25 Test matches across two stints between 1996 and 2000. His captaincy tenure included a difficult period for Indian cricket, which saw him step down from the role in March 2000 after a home series defeat against South Africa. He later declined an offer to return as Test captain in 2007, prompting the management to hand over the responsibility to MS Dhoni.
