Breece Hall's Return Comes At The Worst Time For Kansas City Chiefs As Andy Reid Loses Three Defenders

Andy Reid has seen plenty of tough weeks in the league, but this one stings. The Kansas City Chiefs are still smarting from a 28-24 loss to the Denver Broncos, and now they must patch their defense before the New York Jets arrive at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday. First-round rookies Peter Woods and Mansoor Delane will sit, and so will Omarr Norman-Lott. Nikko Remigio is questionable. The timing is awkward, because Breece Hall returns for New York and Garrett Wilson does not. Here is what the final Week 9 injury report really means for both teams on Sunday.

Kansas City Chiefs Defensive Line Takes A Hit Without Peter Woods And Omarr Norman-Lott

The team made it official on Friday. "Nikko Remigio is questionable to play Sunday against the New York Jets," the team announced on X. "Peter Woods, Mansoor Delane, and Omarr Norman-Lott are out."

Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo now has two fewer tackles to rotate. That matters. Kansas City allows 96.3 rushing yards per game, which ranks eighth in the NFL, and interior depth is what keeps that number low. Woods, the 29th overall pick, has 13 tackles and half a sack in seven games. Norman-Lott is still working back from a knee injury, and his practice window is closing.

Delane's absence stretches the secondary. The sixth overall pick has started five games with one interception and five passes defended. Reid sounded upbeat about both rookies. "Both those two… are making progress, and that's a positive thing, but they're going to be out this game," he said. "It's just a matter of getting back and making sure they're strong; both of them, it's a strength thing right now."

"Still a starter, still a very good running back in this league. Obviously, Braelon's been playing good. I think him and the O-line and the offense have caught their stride after the first 3-4 games." Breece Hall talks about his expectations as he gets ready to return: https://t.co/VmKIdDxldn

The offense looks steadier. Patrick Mahomes, Rashee Rice, Travis Kelce, Nick Bolton and Drue Tranquill all finished the week with no designation.

New York Jets Gain Breece Hall But Lose Garrett Wilson In Week 9

The Jets bring good news and bad news. Hall is back after missing time, and he gives New York a spark on the ground. Braelon Allen has carried the load in his absence with 565 rushing yards. Against a Chiefs front missing two tackles, that backfield looks like the Jets' best path to success.

Through the air, the picture changes. Wilson is in concussion protocol after a helmet-to-helmet hit and is out. He has 43 catches for 527 yards and three touchdowns, so New York loses its top target. Edge rusher David Bailey, who has 5.5 sacks, is cleared to play, which gives Mahomes a threat to watch.

Special teams deserve a glance too. If Remigio cannot go, Jacob De Jesus, a recent practice squad addition, could handle returns.

Sunday looks like a test of Kansas City's depth against a New York team that wants to run.
