Assassin's Creed Game Officially Shutting Down Forever In January 2027

Ben Brosofsky has been writing for Screen Rant since 2022 and editing since 2024. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor's in Cinema & Media Arts. Writing serves as a much-needed distraction from tackling a backlog of Steam games that will never be surmounted.
Assassin's Creed has proven itself to be a series with true longevity, but that doesn't mean every entry will be sticking around forever. While games like Assassin's Creed 2 and the recently remastered Black Flag aren't likely to disappear any time soon, one spin-off game will be meeting a more untimely demise.
Ubisoft established a clear precedent for shutting down Assassin's Creed mobile games in the past, with servers for Assassin's Creed Identity going offline in 2021. The fellow mobile title Assassin's Creed Rebellion has made it much longer, but it's now set to follow Identity's path into oblivion.
This week, the official Assassin's Creed Rebellion X account announced the game's planned shutdown, with servers set to go offline on January 12, 2027. Assassin's Creed Rebellion has already been removed from app stores in light of this decision, although those willing to accept the risks of sideloading content from outside an official app store environment could still do so if they want to check it out before the end.
This news follows the closure of Ubisoft's Halifax studio earlier this year as part of major restructuring and lay-offs that the company has recently undergone. As Ubisoft Halifax was the primary branch of Ubisoft working on Assassin's Creed Rebellion, it left the future of the game in question, with the statement finally confirming fans' fears.
Those still playing Assassin's Creed Rebellion will receive 1 million Helix Credits upon logging in, which should facilitate their enjoyment of the final months. Based on the previous value of credits, this would have been worth thousands of real dollars at any point prior to the announcement, so it should go far in the in-game economy.
Assassin's Creed Rebellion focuses on managing an effective Assassin Brotherhood, a part of the series that gained prominence in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and has recurred as a significant part of the gameplay loop in many entries. In this case, however, heroes from across various eras in the series are brought together, and they can all be trained and managed in a headquarters reminiscent of Fallout: Shelter's dollhouse approach.
Beyond Assassin's Creed Rebellion, the future of Assassin's Creed in the mobile space is somewhat unclear. Assassin's Creed Jade promised to bring a proper Assassin's Creed adventure to phones, but despite large-scale tests several years ago, communication regarding the development of the title has largely fallen silent.
The primary focus for the brand seems to be the upcoming Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe, presumably coming to traditional consoles and PC, along with a multiplayer title called Invictus that reportedly playtested poorly. Much about the franchise's future remains to be seen, but for now, it's time to say requiescat in pace to Assassin's Creed Rebellion.
