Great monsters can make or break a Dungeons & Dragons campaign, so having more options is never a bad thing. While another gaggle of goblins or gathering of ghouls can still get the job done, throwing in monsters with more unique concepts and varied attacks can turn otherwise routine fights into memorable game nights.

Aside from the iconic monster manual, though, D&D often distributes these monsters as inclusions in larger books about broader topics, making it hard for a dungeon master to expand their arsenal without investing a lot of cash. Luckily, the latest batch of additions comes in a smaller, more focused package, and it should be a fun selection.

D&D Elea The Monster

Wizards of the Coast is officially publishing Misplaced Monsters: Volume Two on December 02, 2026, bringing the new collection to the digital D&D Beyond platform. Like the first volume of Misplaced Monsters, which was released in 2023, this compendium shakes things up with "imaginative creatures dreamed up by children" rather than sticking to the mundane minds of adult designers. As a small supplement, no physical release is planned for the volume.

In total, Misplaced Monsters: Volume Two includes eight monsters and one magic item. This ups the scope slightly from the first volume, which featured six new monsters. Accordingly, the price has also jumped from $5.95 for Volume One to $7.95 for Volume Two. All the contents can be used in D&D Beyond's virtual tabletop called Maps, allowing them to be conveniently dragged and dropped into encounters.

If you're on the fence about the value of the purchase, it's worth knowing that buying Misplaced Monsters: Volume Two will support a good cause. Proceeds from the Misplaced Monsters collections are donated to Extra Life, a fundraiser for children's hospitals. In this case, the sales will benefit Seattle Children's mental and behavioral health programs.

The D&D Beyond page for Misplaced Monsters shows off some of the new monster illustrations, placing original drawings by the children side-by-side with professional artist renditions of the concepts. From a giant, fire-breathing reptilian cat to a many-eyed monster with "67" inscribed in two different places on its body, the flights of fancy taking place here could be a breath of fresh air.

Before Misplaced Monsters: Volume Two arrives, D&D will receive another dose of new monsters in Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft, a book bringing the hit MMORPG universe to the tabletop game. That tome will contain a substantially larger array of additions, with over 50 new monsters and plenty of other content to bring the new setting to life.

Looking beyond the whimsy of child-created monsters, D&D will take a darker turn in February with Dark Sun: Blood and Power, an 18+ book that brings back a controversially grim setting with more extreme content than standard D&D fare. In short, the coming months for Dungeons & Dragons should bring plenty of variety to the game, and Misplaced Monsters: Volume Two might be the most delightful part of it all.
