Zahid to discuss with Petronas its continued role as MotoGP’s main sponsor

Translate

The proposal to keep Petronas as MotoGP’s main sponsor in the coming years will be discussed with the national oil company’s group CEO, Tengku Muhammad Taufik Aziz, says deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said MotoGP executive director Carmelo Ezpeleta had expressed hope, during a meeting, that Petronas would continue its involvement in the international motorcycle racing championship.

“Carmelo offered Petronas the opportunity to continue as a sponsor of MotoGP. He told me this is Petronas’s final year as an organiser.

“He wants Malaysia’s name to be synonymous with Petronas and MotoGP. I will meet Taufik to discuss this matter,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama last night.

Zahid said although sponsorship costs might be high, several alternative approaches could be explored to ensure that Petronas remains MotoGP’s main organiser and sponsor in the coming years.

“Although the costs may be quite substantial, I believe there are several other ways to ensure that Petronas remains the main organiser and sponsor of MotoGP,” he said.
