Here’s how much the Southern Guards GC earned at LIV Golf Indianapolis

Rookie Michael La Sasso pipped Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau to win LIV Golf’s season-ending Indianapolis event on Sunday, as the breakaway series faces a deeply uncertain future.

Questions remain about whether and how the divisive LIV Tour – which for years lured golf’s top stars with billions of Saudi dollars – will return next season, after losing its Middle Eastern funding.

Fate of star players uncertain

The fate of star players like Rahm and DeChambeau is critical and remains uncertain, with speculation swirling that many could seek to return to the PGA Tour.

The 2026 season ended with 22-year-old La Sasso, the youngest player on the tour and now its youngest-ever winner, executing a perfect chip on the final hole for a tap-in birdie and victory.

He ended on 18-under with a round of 65, a stroke clear of a surging Rahm, who finished a round of 63 with a costly bogey on his final hole.

DeChambeau and Sergio Garcia finished third on 16-under par.

Spain’s Rahm had already clinched his third consecutive season-long points title.

Rahm’s Legion XIII also sealed the season-long team championship, for a second year running.

Prize pot half the size

LIV Golf’s team championship event in Michigan, which had been scheduled for next week, was cancelled, meaning the Indianapolis event concluded the 2026 campaign.

The Indianapolis prize money pot was roughly half the usual LIV amount, with $10 million spread across players, including just over $2 million for the winner.

Organisers insist a “LIV 2.0” will emerge with a slimmed-down schedule, smaller prizes and new investors.

Mixed bag for Southern Guards

From a South African point of view, the LIV Golf Indianapolis event proved to be a mixed bag.

Dean Burmester finished eighth on 14-under par and earned $265 125 (R4.2 million), while Branden Grace ended in a tie for 17th place on 10-under par which saw him bank $116 431 (R1.87 million).

For Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel it was more of a struggle over the 72 holes.

Oosthuizen finished in a tie for 43rd on 3-under par and earned $64 893 (R1 million), while Schwartzel ended on 2-under par in a tie for 45th in the 57-player field and went home $44 693 (R716 000) richer.

In the team competition, the Southern Guards finished eighth (out of 13 teams) on 29-under par and shared $1 500 000 (R24 million) equally, giving them an extra $375 000 (R6 million) each.
