M. Night Shyamalan's Apple TV Horror Series Returns With Exciting New Release This December

M. Night Shyamalan's Apple TV horror show is getting a new release.

Shyamalan became a household name with the release of The Sixth Sense (1999), a psychological thriller that linked the filmmaker to twist-filled, mind-bending projects. After directing movies like Unbreakable (2000), Signs (2002), The Village (2004), and Split (2016), Shyamalan helped to bring a TV show to life in 2019 with strong results.

Seven years after its premiere on Apple TV, Servant is now gearing up for a physical media release. The psychological horror show, which features Shyamalan as executive producer and showrunner, will release on Blu-ray on December 1, per a new listing on Amazon. Servant: The Complete Series consists of all four seasons of the show, and the Blu-ray is now available for pre-order.

Created by Tony Basgallop, Servant tells the story of a Philadelphia couple whose lives are turned upside down after a devastating tragedy, opening the door for a mysterious force to enter their home. In addition to executive producing and showrunning, Shyamalan directs five episodes of the series, which stars Lauren Ambrose, Nell Tiger Free, Rupert Grint, and Toby Kebbell.

The show, which wrapped up in 2023, was a win with critics for Apple. On Rotten Tomatoes, Servant enjoys a 90% critics' score, with season 4 holding a rare 100%. The Popcornmeter for the series is a little less glowing at 78%, but the show was evidently a strong enough viewership hit to justify a four-season run.

For Shyamalan, Servant marked his second venture into the world of TV after he previously directed one episode of Wayward Pines in 2015. The 2019 series, however, remains his most substantial contribution to the world of streaming television.

Shyamalan's work on Servant came around the time of several big feature film releases for the filmmaker, including Glass (2019), Old (2021), and Knock at the Cabin (2023). Most recently, the filmmaker released Trap (2024) starring Josh Hartnett.

The upcoming Blu-ray of Servant: The Complete Series comes as Shyamalan is gearing up for the release of Remain, his next big movie. Set to hit theaters on February 7 next year, Remain marks a collaboration between Shyamalan and author Nicholas Sparks, with Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor set to star.

Servant's upcoming bow on physical media also comes as Apple continues to find success in the TV game. Series like Widow's Bay, Slow Horses, and Silo, among others, have all been major hits.

It remains to be seen whether Shyamalan will ever try his hand at TV again, but Servant suggests it could be a worthwhile endeavor for the filmmaker. With a Blu-ray release immiment, audiences could be about to rediscover the chilling Apple TV series.
