Melaka polls: Young voters crucial to BN's election hopes

MASJID TANAH: Barisan Nasional is focusing on young voters in its bid to win the Melaka election, recognising their potential to account for a significant share of the total votes.

Melaka BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ab Rauf Yusoh said young voters were the future leaders of the country and had an important role in determining the state's direction.

He said they should make informed choices and safeguard the progress achieved under the current administration by electing a stable and capable government.

"Young voters are being prepared to become future leaders. So, during this election, they must make the right choice.

"They must preserve what we have today so that they can build on the foundation laid by the people and choose a stable and wise government," he said.

He was speaking to reporters after a campaign ceramah for the Tanjung Bidara state constituency in Kampung Balik Batu, here last night.

Earlier, in his speech, Ab Rauf said automatic voter registration had increased the number of voters, including those who had been eligible to vote for years but had never registered.

He said the 2022 General Election had shown that BN needed to reach out to new voters and secure support beyond Umno members, particularly among young people.

Meanwhile, Ab Rauf said Muafakat Melaka, a strategic cooperation with Perikatan Nasional, could help the coalition win up to 25 seats if its campaign machinery was effectively mobilised.

"Of the 21 seats we are contesting, if we do the work properly, we can win up to 25 seats," he said.
