EPL: Chelsea Outclass Man United In Stamford Bridge Showdown

Translate

Chelsea secured a convincing 2-0 victory over 10-man Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, extending the visitors’ winless run to nine matches across all competitions.

The defeat leaves Manchester United in danger of slipping into the Premier League relegation zone this weekend, piling further pressure on Michael Carrick’s side.

United started the encounter brightly and created the better chances in the first half.

However, poor finishing proved costly, with Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo both coming close to finding the back of the net as the Blues struggled to settle into the game.

The visitors were made to pay for their missed opportunities just five minutes into the second half when Morgan Rogers broke into the penalty area unchallenged before calmly slotting home the opener.

United’s afternoon took another disastrous turn when Lisandro Martinez was sent off following a VAR review.

The defender was shown a red card for raising his arm towards Wesley Fofana’s face inside the United penalty area, just three minutes after receiving a yellow card for a foul on Rogers.

Cole Palmer dispatched the resulting penalty, doubling Chelsea’s lead.

Chelsea continued to pile pressure on the visitors, with Estevao briefly thinking he had added a third goal, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside.

The Blues eventually made their numerical advantage count, controlling the remainder of the contest to secure all three points and leave Manchester United facing further questions over their alarming run of form.
