NDDC promises quality service delivery

The Niger Delta Development Commission has restated its commitment to upholding high standards of professionalism and continually seeking innovative ways to improve service delivery to stakeholders in the development of the Niger Delta region.

Speaking during a programme commemorating Customer Service Week in Port Harcourt, the NDDC Executive Director of Corporate Services, Ifedayo Abegunde, said excellent customer service remains an essential component of the commission’s mandate and its commitment to responsive, people-oriented development in the region.

This was contained in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Saturday by the NDDC Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, and sent to journalists.

Abegunde assured stakeholders and communities across the Niger Delta that the commission is committed to delivering the dividends of democracy to everyone.

“This commitment is evident in the kind of projects the commission has delivered in the past three years through the Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, and the management team,” he said.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his bold, visionary leadership in steering the nation’s affairs at a challenging time.

“His Renewed Hope Agenda has laid a solid foundation for economic growth, national unity, and inclusive development,” he said.

The NDDC Deputy Director of SERVICOM, Dr. Irene Okezie, stated that the special occasion provided an opportunity to celebrate customer service professionals and recognise their important roles in building trust, strengthening relationships, and ensuring effective service delivery.

“The NDDC management commends customer service personnel and other frontline staff for diligence, dedication, patience, and commitment to assisting stakeholders, particularly in challenging circumstances.

“We are delivering service to the region. We are service givers and takers; we ensure that things are done well; we comply with processes.

Okezie noted that the commission was using the occasion to appreciate its dedicated staff and stakeholders who go the extra mile to support development in the region.

“This is the first time the commission is observing Customer Service Week, and it will serve as a stepping stone for improvement in the future,” she said.

The NDDC Deputy Director of SERVICOM for the Abuja Liaison Office, Kikelomo Aina, advised staff to show empathy to vulnerable customers, emphasising the importance of helping people who face challenges and need assistance.

“It is good to be available for service delivery even when not on duty,” Aina said. “Inconvenience yourself to satisfy customers.”

She noted that going the extra mile to assist others is desirable and satisfying, though it remains a personal choice rather than a compulsion.

The programme’s consultant, Pastor Benson Eghaire, emphasised the need for teamwork, advising staff to work as a unit to achieve effectiveness and efficiency.

Eghaire also stated that perseverance and determination lead to success, encouraging staff to be more resilient and committed in discharging their duties.
