SASSA Old-Age Grants for October 2026 will be paid in just under a week from now, on Friday, 2 October.

As such, the nation’s four million elderly beneficiaries will have endured a payment gap of exactly 30 days. This is not as bad as the 33-day wait back in August, but not as quick as September’s 28 days.

SASSA OLD-AGE GRANTS FOR OCTOBER 2026

How is the agency missing such huge discrepancies, while others are being reviewed and having grants withheld?

Combined with a lack of information from agency on whether SASSA Old-Age Grants for October 2026 will be topped-up, and it’s been a highly frustrating time for recipients.

What we can confirm is that grants increased by R80 back in April 2026, and that’s the only official word:

• SASSA Old-Age Grants 60 to 74 years old – R2 400 (up from R2 320)
• SASSA Old-Age Grants 75 years and older – R2 420 (up from R2 340)

Should the new SASSA minister Dina Pule surprise us all with an October 2026 top-up, time is draining away fast to make it official.

Previously, small October top-ups amounted to just R10 each. So, if they do go ahead, 60- to 74-year-olds will increase to R2 410 and 75s and older will receive R2 430 next week, respectively.

• Your income must be less than R9 350 (single) or R18 700 (married) per month
• This adds up to R112 200 (single) or R224 400 (married) per year
• Total assets (property) in your name cannot be worth more than R1 584 000 (single) or R3 168 000 (married)

Plus, here’s what new applicants need to show when applying to get SASSA Old-Age Grants for October 2026:

• Official RSA identity document (ID) preferably a Smart ID Card with digital ID photo and full biometrics.
• Valid three months’ statement certified by your bank, plus copies.
• All documents proving your marital status, plus death certificates if necessary.
• Proof of residence (a utility bill with your name on it, not older than three months).
• Documents proving your income and/or financial dividends (very important).
• Comprehensive information regarding assets/valuation of any property you own.
• Full declaration of any and all private pension in your name.
• Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) membership book, or discharge certificate from your previous job.
• A copy of your will, first and final liquidation and distribution accounts if your spouse has passed away in the last five years.

HOW LONG DOES IT USUALLY TAKE TO BE APPROVED FOR SASSA OLD-AGE GRANTS?

SASSA Old-Age Grants for October 2026 typically take around three months to be processed.

So, if successful, you will receive your first payment only in January 2027.

However, you will be back paid to the date of your application, so, three months grants paid in the first tranche.

But that’s assuming you have all your documents correct at the first appointment.
