Translate

A woman has died after she was found with critical injuries on a road near Ballarat in the early hours of this morning.

Victoria Police said the 42-year-old woman, who has not been identified, was found by a passer-by on Remembrance Drive in Cardigan at about 2.10am.

The woman was flown to hospital, but later died.

Police said she may have been lying on the road at the time she was struck by a truck or another vehicle.

The two-lane road where the incident occurred has a speed limit of 80 kilometres an hour.

Officers found debris at the scene that they said could indicate a truck was involved in the incident.

Anyone who drove through the area in the early hours of the morning is being urged to come forward, police said.

The circumstances of the incident remain under investigation.
