Star Trade, Synera ink corporate power purchase agreement

Translate

Star Trade Co (星星電力) has signed a corporate power purchase agreement with Synera Renewable Energy Group (風睿能源集團) for the 800-megawatt (MW) Formosa 6 Offshore Wind Project (海廣風電) off Changhua County, as the power services and energy management provider expands its offshore wind power procurement.

The deal follows an earlier purchase agreement signed late last year between the two companies for the 495MW Formosa 4 Offshore Wind Project (海盛風電) off Miaoli County.

With Formosa 6, Star Trade has contracted more than 10 percent of the two projects’ combined capacity, the company said in a statement yesterday.

The company is a unit of HD Renewable Energy Co (泓德能源), which focuses on building solar power facilities, trading renewable energy and developing storage systems for renewable energy.

The deepening partnership with Synera Renewable Energy reflects robust corporate demand for long-term green electricity supply and the growing role of offshore wind in meeting that demand, Star Trade said.

By leveraging its solar power resources, Star Trade aims to improve its green energy supply mix for customers, it said.

Formosa 6 is Synera Renewable Energy’s fourth offshore wind project in Taiwan.

Once operational, the project is expected to generate enough clean electricity to for about 860,000 households annually, Star Trade said, adding that it expects Formosa 6 to start supplying offshore wind power in the fourth quarter of 2028.

In addition to green energy purchases and sales, the two companies hope to combine renewable energy and energy storage resources to provide diversified power services to more businesses, it said.

Synera Renewable Energy said the latest deal with Star Trade comes as governments place greater emphasis on energy security amid a rapidly evolving global political and economic landscape.

Renewable energy is increasingly viewed not only as an environmental priority, but also as a strategic asset to improve energy security and economic resilience, it said in a separate statement.

“Through our expanded partnership with Star Trade, we can help more businesses in Taiwan access the green electricity they need while supporting the country’s energy transition,” Synera Renewable Energy chairman Lucas Lin (林雍堯) said in the firm’s statement.

The two firms did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.
