Selma Blair taken into custody after being physically abusive on Delta flight, officials say

Selma Blair was taken into custody after being physically abusive on a Delta Airlines flight traveling from Los Angeles to New York City on Sunday, according to a New York Port Authority spokesperson.

The “Cruel Intentions” actor, 54, was identified as the suspect by the Port Authority, which noted that she was taken to a hospital for evaluation after the flight landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Two flight attendants reported injuries and one was taken to a hospital, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson did not provide any additional details about what happened onboard the aircraft but noted that the FBI was investigating the incident. The FBI confirmed it was responsible for investigating all incidents aboard aircrafts and had been contacted regarding a “potential assault aboard a flight that arrived into JFK.”

“As per long-standing DOJ policy, we do not comment on ongoing investigations,” the FBI said.

The Federal Aviation Administration also said it would investigate a “passenger disturbance” on the flight.

A representative for Blair confirmed to NBC News that she was taken to the hospital following the flight.

“Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct,” the representative said. “Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition.”

Blair’s representative did not describe the medical emergency, but Blair revealed in 2018 that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The autoimmune disorder attacks health cells in the central nervous system, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Delta did not identify Blair in response to a request for comment from NBC News, but did express it has “zero tolerance” for unlawful behavior in a statement Monday.

“Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first,” the company said.

Blair had an incident on a plane in 2016 involving her having a verbal outburst accusing someone of wanting to kill her, TMZ reported at the time. She was transported off the flight with a stretcher and taken to a hospital upon the flight’s landing in Los Angeles.

She later admitted to mixing alcohol and medication in a statement to Vanity Fair apologizing for her behavior.

“I take this very seriously, and I apologize to all of the passengers and crew that I disturbed and am thankful to all of the people who helped me in the aftermath,” Blair said at the time. “I am a flawed human being who makes mistakes and am filled with shame over this incident.”
