Danny Elfman Says Tool Album Helped Him Endure the Pain of His Multiple Tattoos

Translate

Composer and music artist Danny Elfman says he has Tool to thank for his heavily tatted body.

Elfman — who has scored multiple Tim Burton films, among other movies, and was the frontman of ’80s new wave band Oingo Boingo — spoke with Kyle Meredith at the recent Louder Than Life festival, telling the podcast host that Tool’s 2019 album Fear Inoculum helped him endure the pain of getting his many tattoos.

“I told the drummer, Danny Carey, a little while ago that all of the tattoos on me, I only got because their last album, Fear Inoculum… literally got me through the whole process. I couldn’t have done it without it.”

He continued, “I told him, ‘I don’t even know the name of a single song, ’cause I’ve only listened to the entire album about 40 times.’ … For some reason, what my brain needed to get me out of the torture chamber was Tool.”

Elfman recently completed a run of shows with his solo rock band, but can be seen on November 13th and 14th at the Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas as pair of “Danny Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton” orchestral concerts. Pick up tickets here.
