One OG character from Reacher is all set to return in a month. Considering how significant this character has been in the overarching franchise, it is hard not to see how she deserves to be a part of the Prime Video series as well. If she is introduced in Prime Video's Reacher in the near future, she could even prove to be the perfect replacement for Neagley and Roscoe.
The character in question, Susan Turner, is one of the few recurring female leads in Lee Child's Jack Reacher books. Susan Turner plays a major role in two Jack Reacher novels: 61 Hours and Never Go Back. She is also referenced or called at various points during the story arc spanning books 15 to 17: Worth Dying For, A Wanted Man, and Personal.
Susan has one of the longest running arcs in the Jack Reacher books. She is soon set to return as one of the leads in the 31st novel in the Jack Reacher series: Chain Reaction. Co-written by Lee Child and his brother, Andrew Child, the new Reacher book is set for release on October 20, 2026. It begins with General Susan Turner reaching out to Jack Reacher when one of the team members gets brutally murdered.
Susan Turner Was Also In 1 Jack Reacher Movie, But Hasn't Appeared In The Show
Although Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher movies took many creative liberties, the second one, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, featured Susan Turner as the secondary lead. Played by Cobie Smulders, Turner is portrayed as a strong ally to Reacher in the movie and almost fulfills the same role as Neagley and Roscoe.
Surprisingly, despite being such a crucial part of the franchise, Sustan Turner has not made any appearances in the series. However, it seems likely that she will eventually appear in the show. One of her biggest parts in the franchise is in Lee Child's 61 Hours. Given how 61 Hours is one of the best books in the entire series, it seems likely Prime Video will eventually adapt it.
Interestingly, even though Susan Turner has not physically appeared in the Prime Video series, she has been mentioned once in passing. In season 3, Reacher tries to get in touch with her by calling the 110th MP Special Investigations Unit's office. Susan seemingly serves as the current commanding officer of the team in the sequence.
"I'm calling in that favor she owes me," he says, which is seemingly a throwaway line that suggests Never Go Back's events might have even happened off-screen. The scene, however, reveals that Turner is not available, potentially setting the stage for her future appearance.
Susan Turner Deserves A Bigger Part In Prime Video's Reacher
Susan Turner is one of Reacher's most compelling allies in the original book series. After the upcoming book, Chain Reaction, she will likely become an even more significant part of the overarching franchise. Given how Prime Video has struggled to find a worthy replacement for Roscoe since season 1, Turner's introduction could give the series a new worthy female lead.
Neagley, too, has her own spin-off series, suggesting that she will make fewer appearances in the parent show's future seasons. This gives the Prime Video series a lot of room to introduce a recurring female main character like Turner. The show could even have some semblance of continuity if it finally introduces a female character whose arc lasts for multiple seasons.
Reacher season 5 is all set to adapt Lee Child's Make Me, which does not feature Susan Turner. Season 6, however, has the opportunity to pick up 61 Hours for adaptation and finally introduce Turner.
