    Positive signs early on in the season

    Mohun Bagan has undergone several changes since its last season’s slump. After it made an exit from the Super Cup, its coach Jose Molina parted ways, with Panagiotis Dilmperis taking over.

    But the club’s reserve side, under manager Bastab Roy, showed the most optimistic signs of revival, as it won the Calcutta Football League title this season.

    Bagan ended its eight-year drought of the title with this trophy and also dethroned rival East Bengal by clinching the silverware.

    Preview

    Defending champion Mohun Bagan Super Giant will look to begin its campaign on a high as it takes on Indian Football League side Sreenidi Deccan at the Mohun Bagan Ground on Wednesday.

    Bagan won the last edition of the tournament in 2025, beating arch-rival East Bengal on penalties in the final. However, the Red-and-Gold Brigade has won the Indian Super League and the Durand Cup titles since and the ball will be in the Mariners’ court to get back to the top in the Maidan circuit.
