Kathy Hochul 'excited' about prospect of Democrats tying Trump up in investigations

Gov. Kathy Hochul, D-N.Y., told Politico Tuesday that she was "excited" at the possibility of a Democratic Congress holding up President Donald Trump's agenda through investigations and hearings.

Hochul brought up the concept while discussing the Democratic Party's chances of not only retaking the House in November, but the Senate as well. With both chambers of Congress, Hochul said Democrats could halt the "corruption" she alleged was occurring under the Trump administration.

"We are hoping for the House, but to get the Senate on top of it, next level, game-changing, extraordinary," Hochul said. "So, I'm excited about this. When you talk about Trump's next two years with that Democratic House and Senate, hey, guess what? There's investigations, there's hearings, there's subpoenas, there's questioning. We're putting the media spotlight on everything he's doing and trying to stop his 'flood the zone' strategy of doing so much bad stuff in such a short time that you can't even keep track of it."

She added, "And so now you'll have congressional oversight committees and subcommittees and commissions. So that's going to tie things up to at least not that we want to stop the workings of the good part of government, but stop the corruption, stop the abuse and things that he's getting away with now. A fraction of them would have been national scandals for years and taken out here."

Despite her criticism of Trump's agenda, Hochul also voiced hope that she could work with the president in his final two years in office.

"I think there are some legacy projects that I've encouraged him to look at in New York as well. I want to build nuclear. I want to power this state with what'll ultimately be low-cost, reliable power," Hochul said.

She added, "I can do nuclear and look, I committed that we're going to build more nuclear in New York than the entire country has in the last 30 years. I need the president. I have a proposal before him now, how to unlock this and do it in half the time and much less cost. I've got a plan. So, those are areas where he can make a legacy in his home state."

In a statement to Fox News Digital, White House spokesperson Lauren Bis said, "Democrats have no agenda to improve the lives of Americans—their only agenda is to continue their decade-long witch hunt against President Trump. This administration and commonsense Republicans will continue to secure our borders, restore law and order, putting more money back into the pockets of hard-working Americans, and deliver wins for the American people. The choice has never been clearer: doubling down on President Trump’s winning, commonsense agenda or the Democrats’ obstruction."

The New York Republican State Committee communications director David Laska criticized Hochul for saying the "quiet part out loud" and suggesting the Democrats' main goal is to halt the president's agenda rather than focus on the state.

"Kathy Hochul said the quiet part out loud, admitting that if Democrats win control of either chamber, they'll use the powers of Congress to thwart the President's agenda with phony hearings and investigations. Kathy Hochul should worry less about President Trump and more about the fact that New York continues to lead the nation in outmigration because she keeps us the most taxed, least affordable, least free state in the nation," Laska told Fox News Digital.
