Amber Ray’s Turkey Makeover Rekindles Debate Over Cosmetic Surgery and Social Media
Amber Ray has once again put cosmetic procedures at the centre of conversations about beauty, money and the influence of social media.
The influencer travelled to Istanbul, Turkey, in September for a series of cosmetic procedures and documented much of the experience for her online followers.
Her transformation included breast augmentation, 360-degree liposuction and a calf fat transfer. She also underwent extensive dental work, with 21 teeth replaced for cosmetic reasons.
According to The Standard, the dental procedures cost approximately KSh924,000.
Amber Documents Her Transformation
Amber, whose real name is Faith Makau, had announced her plans to undergo cosmetic procedures before travelling to Turkey.
She subsequently shared updates from Istanbul, including her arrival and recovery following the procedures.
“Finally, the long wait is OVER! I’m officially in Turkey for my plastic surgery journey.”
According to K24, Amber described the trip as a personal transformation journey and said she had spent time preparing for the procedures.
Her partner, Kennedy Rapudo, was initially opposed to the decision but later supported her.
Amber also revealed that she chose not to undergo a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), saying she was satisfied with her natural curves.

Why Influencers Are Turning to Cosmetic Procedures
Amber’s experience comes amid growing public discussion around cosmetic surgery in Kenya.
A June 2026 report by Citizen Digital cited medical experts who said interest in cosmetic and reconstructive procedures was increasing, with women accounting for nearly 90 per cent of patients seeking such treatments.
The procedures cited included breast lifts, body contouring and non-surgical weight-loss treatments.
Social media has also become an increasingly important part of the conversation.
Plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr Christopher Matwa told The Star in July that he had observed an increase in influencers seeking cosmetic procedures.
According to Matwa, some influencers view such procedures as an investment in their personal brands because their careers place considerable emphasis on appearance.
However, the motivations behind seeking cosmetic surgery vary from one individual to another and can include personal preferences, access to specialised doctors, privacy and cost.
Why Turkey Has Become a Popular Destination
Turkey has emerged as a major destination for international medical and cosmetic procedures, attracting patients from different parts of the world.
Amber’s trip adds a high-profile Kenyan example to that broader trend.
However, travelling abroad for cosmetic surgery also comes with practical considerations. The UK’s National Health Service advises people considering procedures overseas to research the surgeon’s qualifications, the regulation of the facility, available aftercare and arrangements for dealing with possible complications.
For Amber, the highly documented transformation has therefore become more than a celebrity beauty story.
