"Pathetic": Asmongold Blasts Dead By Daylight After Its Second Response To TheBurntPeanut Controversy On X

Asmongold has slammed Dead by Daylight's second public statement on the TheBurntPeanut controversy, and he isn't happy with how the developer handled the backlash. Behaviour Interactive put out a four-part explanation on November 2, covering the free in-game rewards, its employee's conduct and the internal approval process. The studio also confirmed that the content given to TheBurntPeanut had been removed. Asmongold was far from impressed, calling it a “pathetic capitulation that will earn the respect of no one.” This came after the developer had already apologised once for the incident on November 1.

Dead by Daylight explains why TheBurntPeanut received free content and confirms its removal

Behaviour Interactive said the rewards were handed out after its team noticed a large audience watching TheBurntPeanut in the game's Twitch category.

The employee wanted to give the streamer access to more content and joined his chat, but did that before getting the required approval. The studio admitted its normal creator-review process got skipped.

Creators are usually checked for whether their content fits the community's inclusion values, and that review did not happen properly here.

The developer also addressed the infamous “WE CAN TAKE THE HEAT!” message posted through its official account during the stream.

Behaviour admitted the reply was inappropriate and made the backlash worse, especially for creators in its own community who were dealing with the criticism.

Asmongold calls the developer's second apology a pathetic response after the rewards were taken back

Asmongold didn't agree with how Behaviour dealt with the backlash. Reacting to the November 2 statement, he criticised the developer for what he saw as backing down under pressure instead of standing by its employee.

He wrote:

“Pathetic capitulation that will earn the respect of no one”

His post also went after people he believed were responsible for harassing and doxxing a Behaviour employee. So his criticism was aimed at the studio's response to that situation, not only its decision to remove TheBurntPeanut's rewards.

Behaviour's four-part statement also covered the employee's conduct and confirmed it was taking internal action.

The company said it was treating the matter seriously, but it did not publicly detail the specific action taken against the staff members involved.

The studio further said creators found to have violated its Creator Program Policy would be removed from the program.

It also condemned threats against employees and asked users not to engage with posts targeting staff members. Behaviour did not name the employee involved or explain what disciplinary measures had been taken.

The controversy has reached Steam too, where Dead by Daylight has picked up negative reviews from people on both sides of the argument.

Some players objected to the original giveaway and the developer's handling of it, while others criticised the studio for taking the rewards back.
