Warning: minor spoilers for Prime Video’s Carrie TV show.

Prime Video’s Carrie makes many changes to Stephen King’s novel, including adding more context to Carrie (Summer H. Howell) and her powers, with one scene featuring a fortune-teller who looks very familiar. Some of the best works of Stephen King have been adapted to other media multiple times, most notably Carrie, his first published novel. After adaptations to film and even a stage adaptation, Carrie has now gotten its first TV adaptation over at Prime Video.

Developed by Mike Flanagan, Carrie is a reimagined and modernized version of King’s novel, and as such, it makes changes and additions to the story of Carrie White. However, the show stays true to the core elements of the novel, exploring the story of Carrie, her abusive mother Margaret (Samantha Sloyan), and the bullying scandal that awakens her telekinetic powers. A TV format gave Flanagan’s Carrie a lot more time to explore her powers and their origin, even going back in time to show that people with special abilities have always existed.

One of these examples can be found in the sixth episode of Carrie, which opens with a visit to Damon Nostra, a.k.a. Greg McMurray, a famous psychic who at one point even had a popular phone hotline and a TV show. Damon Nostra, especially his voice, will be familiar to many viewers, especially sci-fi and horror fans, as he’s played by none other than Mark Hamill.

Mark Hamill Plays The Fortune Teller In Carrie Episode 6

The opening scene of Carrie episode 6 explains that, even after Damon’s popularity waned, he continued offering his psychic services to those in need – and while all this points at first to Damon being a man with special powers, it’s actually the woman who visits him who has them. In fact, Damon has no powers at all, and has simply taken advantage of vulnerable people for many years.

The woman comes to Damon for help as she has visions that are haunting her, just like Damon has claimed to have. The woman asks how he managed to control them, but soon finds that Damon is a fake. While Damon calls the police, the woman stabs her own eyes, much to Damon’s horror. Damon isn’t seen again in the rest of Carrie, but he’s one of the most notable appearances in the show, as he’s played by Mark Hamill.

The legendary actor isn’t recognizable right away as he wears prosthetics to play Damon and uses his voice acting skills, but the more you see and hear him, the more familiar he sounds. Flanagan shared with ScreenRant that it was Hamill’s request to be “somewhat unrecognizable” in his cameo appearance in Carrie, and so his request was fulfilled.

Mark Hamill Has Appeared In Several Of Mike Flanagan's Projects

Mark Hamill’s cameo in Mike Flanagan’s Carrie TV show is one of the show’s best surprises, but it makes sense when looking back at his past links to Flanagan and Stephen King. In 2023, Hamill played Arthur Pym in Flanagan’s TV series The Fall of the House of Usher, his last project with Netflix before moving to Prime Video. A year later, Hamill played Chuck’s grandfather, Albie Krantz, in Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck, the movie adaptation of King’s novella of the same name.

Outside of Flanagan’s works, Hamill has also been part of other Stephen King adaptations. Hamill had an uncredited cameo in Mick Garris’ 1992 adaptation of Sleepwalkers as Sheriff Jenkins, and in 2025, he had a bigger role as the Major in Francis Lawrence’s adaptation of The Long Walk. Mark Hamill has officially become one of Mike Flanagan’s frequent collaborators, and it’s always a delight to see him play different characters thanks to his impressive acting range.
