National Sports Day celebrations postponed in 7 states, territories due to haze

Translate

Tomorrow’s National Sports Day celebrations in seven states and federal territories have been postponed due to the haze.

Celebrations in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor, Kedah, Penang, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka will be postponed.

However, celebrations in Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Perlis, Perak, Sarawak and Labuan will proceed as planned.

The national-level celebration at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium has also been postponed.

“New dates will be announced later, subject to air quality returning to safe levels for outdoor activities,” the youth and sports ministry said in a statement.

It said the decision to postpone the events was made after discussions with the relevant government agencies, taking into account public health and the safety of participants, organisers and the public.

The ministry also said it is closely monitoring air quality and haze conditions in several parts of the country.

It apologised for any inconvenience caused and thanked all parties for their understanding and cooperation.

As of 10am, 37 areas nationwide recorded unhealthy air pollutant index readings while another 31 recorded moderate air quality.

No area recorded good air quality, but none registered very unhealthy or hazardous readings.
