UEL: Ndidi Benched In Besiktas’ 3-2 Defeat At Celtic
Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi was benched as Celtic came from behind to beat Besiktas 3-2 and get their first Europa League win of the season.
Martin O’Neill’s side looked dead and buried and heading for a seventh defeat in 11 games and bottom place when on 54 minutes Junior Olaitan gave Besiktas the lead after he saw his penalty saved by Sam Johnstone but smashed in the rebound.
Callum Osmand drilled home with his first touch from 22 yards out, seconds after coming on to make it 1-1.
With 12 minutes remaining Colombian striker Camilo Duran put Celtic 2-1 ahead after rounding the keeper.
In the 85th minute Orkun Kokcu equalised for Besiktas but in the 87th minute Duran bagged the winner as he got a touch and stabbed home from six yards for his second of the night.
Celtic were heading for a record 5th straight European defeat but this win gives them a fighting chance. They move out of the bottom four with three points from four games.
Besiktas slip to a first defeat in Europe this season – they had won one, drawn two before tonight – and stay on five points.
Next up, Celtic are away at Torreense while Besiktas home to Hapoel Be’er Sheva on Nov 26.
