The New York Knicks gained vital confidence as a franchise after winning the 2025 NBA Cup, and they used some of the lessons learned in that in-season tournament to help them capture their first league championship since 1973. The Philadelphia 76ers are hoping to follow a similar blueprint this year, and their quest for NBA Cup glory coincidentally begins against those very Knickerbockers. They want to start the tourney with a bang, but is that possible without Jaylen Brown?

The 2024 Finals MVP and two-time All-NBA selection is sidelined due to left patellar tendinopathy. Sixers head coach Nick Nurse provided the media with all the information at his disposal, claiming that Brown reported soreness after Wednesday's comeback win over the Indiana Pacers and did not participate in Friday morning's shootaround, per NBC Sports Philadelphia's Noah Levick. "That's all I know," the 2019 champion said.
Brown is fitting in nicely with the 76ers (4-1), averaging 20.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.2 steals per contest while shooting 44.2 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from 3-point range. With LeBron James, Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid all commanding their fair share of the ball, No. 7 must become more efficient from distance. It has only been five games, but he is answering the call so far.

Philly could use some of his offensive versatility in Xfinity Mobile Arena on Friday night. Jaylen Brown will cheer on his teammates from the bench and hope that his knee cooperates for Saturday's road matchup versus the Charlotte Hornets.
