One of the most exciting aspects about growing up as an anime fan in the 1990s through the 2000s, or even just sampling their hits years later, is just how much of it is making a comeback. Dragon Ball Super will drop its re-cut of old stories from the God of Destruction to the Universe 6 Saga in a matter of weeks. Code Geass just released its new trailer for the Star Chaser Aspal anime set to release in 2027. But for fans of the Shonen Big Three, with One Piece's anime going on hiatus before its next season and Bleach concluding its epic finale soon enough, the ball is now in Naruto's court ahead of its mysterious announcement in two weeks.
Truthfully, Naruto has been having a thrilling year in 2026 with an impressive spread of multimedia content, from card games, to children's books, to big developments on its live-action Hollywood film adaptation. But even with its sequel manga still ongoing and carving a strong path for Naruto's narrative future, most fans are demanding one thing: more anime. Fortunately, it seems these hopes may soon be addressed more concretely than ever, as New York Comic Con, VIZ Media, and Naruto's official social media accounts are teasing something big with its next project.
Naruto's Anime Future Will Be Its Brightest In Years With Upcoming Announcement
Plenty has been said already about what projects are still up in the air for the Naruto franchise. The remade four episodes could reasonably get an announcement, as could Boruto's Part 2 resumption as previously confirmed on Studio Pierrot's website. But between its official posts on X and its New York Comic Con listing teasing appearances from iconic voice actors Junko Takeuchi and Noriaki Sugiyama, as well as Pierrot production producer Yoshihiko Tominaga being at the convention, per VIZ's press release, the anime is certainly the topic on everyone's minds. It also seems to suggest any new anime project for Naruto might not be their only announcement.

Not only does the above tease suggest big things on multiple fronts, such as specifically new Naruto anime content such as another animated film, but it is being hyped as a substantial reveal at that. Naruto's official X account tweeted out its update on the matter back in August, with the line "Could this be the start of something big...? Stay tuned for more!" standing as a strong indicator that whatever is unveiled, it's got the backing of its primary anime stars, with at least one project certain to be announced. There's plenty of ground to cover whether revisiting the past, pushing into the future, or filling the gaps in between.
Naruto's Manga Has Charted New Paths For More Anime
With Boruto: Two Blue Vortex more confidently finding its footing as a series, it's been a pretty exciting manga to return to on a monthly basis. The saga of Boruto Uzumaki the outcast will soon begin when the anime makes its inevitable return, with now years of content easily available to adapt. This is at least one avenue Pierrot will take, and the one it most reasonably should as the material has a significant enough backlog to adapt now. That's before even getting into whether more Naruto video games are on the way, which feels almost like a given with how action-packed Boruto's new manga has been lately.
But while the show's anniversary also promised four new episodes, fans may also crave the prestige treatment across its original run, however massive a task that would end up being. If WIT Studio's One Piece is any indication, it could reasonably be done with another production house's help.

Its fellow Weekly Shonen Jump alumnus and V Jump neighbor could take some cues. If Naruto wants to have momentum on multiple fronts, it's fair to hope that its roadmap would include some nods to its classic legacy, as well as either a new anime film or even a sequel covering more than a decade of virtually untouched history between Naruto and Boruto.
