Orlando Pirates could pocket R21.6 million in October and here’s how

Translate

Orlando Pirates have a chance to bring in R21.6 million this month as they compete for silverware in the MTN8 and push for a place in the CAF Champions League group stages.

The Buccaneers travel to Moses Mabhida Stadium this weekend for a mouth-watering MTN8 final against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Pirates will be aiming to lift the trophy for a fifth consecutive time, and victory on Saturday evening would see them pocket R10 million in prize money while securing their first trophy of the season.

Just days after the MTN8 final, the Sea Robbers will begin their CAF Champions League campaign against Namibian champions African Stars in the second preliminary round.

The two-legged tie is scheduled to take place over the next two weeks, with Pirates set to travel for the first leg on 17 October before hosting the return leg on 23 October.

Orlando Pirates looking to secure R11.6 million in CAF

There is plenty at stake for the Buccaneers, with qualification for the CAF Champions League group stages worth USD700,000, which is approximately R11.6 million.

That means Pirates could earn around R21.6 million from the two competitions alone if they beat Sundowns in the MTN8 final and successfully navigate their Champions League preliminary-round tie.

The Buccaneers are also firmly in the Betway Premiership title race. They currently trail leaders Sundowns by just one point, although Pirates have a game in hand.

With further cup competitions still to come, Pirates will be hoping their trophy chase brings in far more than the R21.6 million already within reach this month.
