Dave Grohl and Pat Smear Bring Some Foo Fighters Style to the Pretty Reckless’ ‘About You’
Dave Grohl and Pat Smear have linked up with Taylor Momsen and the Pretty Reckless for a new version of the latter’s song, “About You.”
The new version isn’t too dissimilar from the original — both being high-flying rock songs — but Grohl and Smear give the track a distinct Foo Fighters-esque edge. Smear and Grohl both contributed guitar, adding some chunky palm muted power chords, while Grohl plays the drums with that characteristic thundering skip.
Grohl also contributes some new backing vocals, joining Momnsen on the chorus: “What you say, I forget/What you do, I regret/Not a word of it is true/It’s true what they say/That you’re running away/So, what does it say?/What does it say about you?”
In a statement, Momsen called “About You” one of her favorite songs from the Pretty Reckless’ most recent album, Dear God, which is why she “wanted to do something special” with the track. “I called Dave and Pat and asked them if they’d lend their magic to it,” she continued. “It was an amazing time in the studio making music, there’s nothing better than jamming with friends. I couldn’t be happier with the result.”
