Brittany Mahomes, Kelly Stafford Face ESPN Veteran's Warning After NFL Backlash

Being married to an NFL quarterback puts one in the spotlight, but it does not put you above the conversation. Former ESPN SportsCenter anchor Linda Cohn made that clear this week, aiming her message at Brittany Mahomes and Kelly Stafford. One wife blasted a flag that wiped out a Kansas City Chiefs touchdown. The other questioned a schedule that gives the Los Angeles Rams no true bye. Both posts spread fast online. Cohn says both deserve a fair hearing, yet both also need a reality check about how their words land with everyday football fans.

Brittany Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs Flag That Shook the Denver Broncos Game

On November 1, the Kansas City Chiefs lost 28-24 to the Denver Broncos. Patrick Mahomes hit Rashee Rice for a late touchdown, and the lead looked theirs. Then officials flagged right tackle Jaylon Moore for a false start. The score vanished, and Mahomes took a sack on the final play.

Brittany Mahomes vented on Instagram. "You can't tell me you call that on a game-winning TD, oh wait yeah I can cause it's us," she wrote. Cohn zeroed in on the last part. "So you can understand why people hear 'because it's us' and think, 'Are we remembering the same football games, Brittany?' You saw those," she said.

THIS IS AWFUL #Rams QB Matthew Stafford's wife, Kelly, is CALLING OUT the #NFL for making Los Angeles the only team without a true bye week. Kelly says even she's exhausted from watching games in the stands and can't imagine how the players feel. She wants answers from the NFL.

The film does not favor Brittany. Head coach Andy Reid said, "I didn't see it." Tom Brady disagreed, telling reporters, "I hate pouring salt in the wound, but the knee flinched. The refs made the right call," according to MARCA.

Kelly Stafford And The Los Angeles Rams Bye Week Complaint

Kelly Stafford picked a different fight. She challenged the calendar, not a call. The Los Angeles Rams face the Arizona Cardinals on November 15, then host the Green Bay Packers on November 25. That 10-day gap falls short of the roughly 13 days a normal bye brings.

"Just curious to hear the thought process behind making the Rams the only team in the NFL without a true bye week," she wrote in her Instagram story this week. "Because after 18 years around this league, even I need a week off during the season… and I have never played a single snap. I'm tired just watching from the stands. Can't imagine how the guys feel."

Her case has real weight. The Rams will travel 34,847 miles this season, second only to the San Francisco 49ers, partly thanks to their Australia opener. Cohn agreed on the substance. "Kelly makes the case for player recovery that's a conversation worth having. Just understand why your own game day exhaustion might not generate the sympathy you expect."
