ISKANDAR PUTERI: A fruit stall storing firecrackers caught fire, destroying about 60 per cent of the structure in Taman Nusa Perintis, Gelang Patah, here, last night.

The fire, which involved a temporary structure measuring 20 by 50 square feet, caused no injuries or casualties.

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department operations centre said it received an emergency call at 9.20pm.

It said a team of seven personnel, led by Senior Fire Officer I Saifulizam Salleh from the Iskandar Puteri Fire and Rescue Station, rushed to the scene with a fire engine and arrived six minutes later.

"Upon arrival at the scene, the operations team found a fire outside a fruit stall storing firecrackers.

"The team carried out extinguishing operations using two 61-metre hose reels with water sourced from a fire hydrant," the statement said.

The fire was brought under control, and extinguishing and overhaul operations ended at 10.52pm.

Earlier, a 32-second video went viral on social media showing the stall on fire and sparks from fireworks shooting off outside the premises.
