Indonesia urges caution for nationals amid Saudi security concerns

Indonesia's Hajj and Umrah Ministry urged Indonesian nationals in Saudi Arabia to remain vigilant and avoid high-risk areas amid heightened security concerns.
"We ask Indonesians in Saudi Arabia, including Umrah pilgrims, to stay calm and remain vigilant. Avoid high-risk areas, comply with prevailing regulations, and follow directives from local authorities. Safety must be the top priority," ministry spokesperson Ichsan Marsha said in Jakarta on Monday.
He advised citizens to rely on official sources for updates, disregard unverified information, and refrain from sharing rumors to prevent unnecessary panic.
Umrah pilgrims currently in Saudi Arabia have been advised to stay in close contact with their travel organizers, monitor travel updates, and comply with safety guidelines issued by local authorities.
Marsha underscored the importance of travel organizers closely monitoring their groups and providing timely, essential guidance.
Prospective pilgrims scheduled for future departures were urged to closely monitor developments and consult official channels regarding travel plans.
"Follow government directives and do not hesitate to contact your travel organizers for clarification in the event of changes to schedules or travel requirements," he added.
The advisory followed an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday (Oct. 10) that killed 12 people and injured 309 others, prompting the temporary suspension of airport operations, according to the Saudi Arabian General Authority of Civil Aviation.
