Melaka polls: Bersatu welcomes PH despite no pact

MELAKA: Bersatu has not issued any official directive to its grassroots to reciprocate support for Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates in the Melaka election.
Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the party nonetheless welcomed support from any party or voter intending to back its candidates.
"We welcome anyone who believes it is good to support Bersatu. We certainly appreciate it because we want our candidates to win.
"However, we have not issued any directives. Even so, Bersatu members understand what needs to be done," he said after a walkabout with residents at the Sungai Udang constituency hall.
Muhyiddin was responding to reports on PH's readiness to assist the Bersatu machinery.
Earlier, Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu also confirmed no official directive was received by the party to do so.
Muhiyiddin then expressed appreciation for any open endorsement from supporters of other parties aimed at ensuring victory for Bersatu candidates.
He also confirmed there was no official cooperation between Bersatu and PH.
He said that early talks were held between party leaders to avoid seat overlaps.
Muhyiddin added that Bersatu remained open to working together with PH.
"Yes, we welcome it. We will not say we want to reject it," he said.
