When Dawson's Creek premiered on The WB in 1998, it quickly became a cultural phenomenon. For six seasons, viewers followed Dawson, Joey, Pacey, and Jen through first loves, devastating breakups, up-and-down friendships, and the messy business of growing up, often feeling like they were part of the group themselves. The fictional town of Capeside became a refuge for millions of viewers, while the show's emotional story and complicated relationships made it a defining teen drama of the late 90s and early 2000s.
Part of its appeal was how seriously it treated the problems of its young characters. What might have seemed like ordinary high-school drama felt enormous through their eyes, and audiences became deeply invested. More than two decades after its finale, Dawson's Creek remains one of the most beloved teen dramas of its generation.
Now, members of the original cast are being brought back together in an unexpected new release arriving November 10, offering longtime fans another opportunity to revisit the Capeside in what promises to be the ultimate nostalgia trip.

Dawson's Creek is officially bringing its original cast back together for a nostalgic new release arriving November 10, 2026, although the reunion is happening in a somewhat unexpected format. I Don't Want to Wait: My Life on Dawson's Creek is a new book written by Kerr Smith, who played Jack McPhee on the beloved teen drama, featuring interviews with former cast members and some never-before-heard stories about the series.
The upcoming release revisits the show's most iconic characters, including Dawson Leery (James Van Der Beek), Joey Potter (Katie Holmes), Pacey Witter (Joshua Jackson), and Jen Lindley (Michelle Williams), alongside Jack and the rest of Capeside's familiar faces.
Crucially, it goes beyond Smith just recounting his personal experience. The actor has hosted 25 interviews with people involved in the series, bringing together various perspectives from those responsible for its success. While the publisher hasn't confirmed the complete list of participating cast members, it has explicitly advertised interviews with Smith's former co-stars.
The book also features contributions from creator Kevin Williamson, the show's writing staff, crew members, and network and studio executives, offering fans an opportunity to revisit Dawson's Creek through the lens of people who actually made the show happen. Described as a season-by-season retrospective, I Don't Want to Wait explores everything from the origins of its most beloved characters to its most memorable episodes, behind-the-scenes relationships, and storylines that almost took entirely different directions.
Smith also reflects on his own experience playing Jack McPhee, whose groundbreaking coming-out storyline helped establish the series as an important milestone for LGBTQ+ representation on TV. His character was also involved in one of American primetime television's first prominent romantic kisses between two men.
The book officially releases November 10 through Grand Central Publishing, with a hardcover edition priced at $32 and an ebook edition also available. Fans can additionally purchase an unabridged audiobook through Hachette Audio or via Audible, narrated by Smith himself.
You can pre-order I Don't Want To Wait: My Life On Dawson's Creek via Amazon here.
With James Van Der Beek's passing in February, the retrospective also arrives at a particularly emotional moment for longtime Dawson's Creek viewers. Although it isn't a traditional television reunion, I Don't Want to Wait promises something arguably just as appealing, giving fans an opportunity to revisit the series through fresh stories from the people who helped make it unforgettable.
