Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto convened ministers and agency chiefs at the presidential palace in Jakarta on Monday afternoon to review the response to forest and land fires in Kalimantan and Sumatra.

Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Dudung Abdurachman said he would report on measures taken, particularly in priority areas.

“Today's meeting will discuss forest and land fires because the president takes the issue seriously. Military, police, forestry, and disaster officials will join by Zoom,” Dudung told reporters before the meeting.

The meeting began around 4:30 p.m., with Dudung, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Military Chief General Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Suyudi Ario Seto, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya attending in person.

Joining by video link were Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak, Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali, Air Force Chief of Staff Air Chief Marshal M. Tonny Harjono, National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Head Suharyanto, and regional military commanders, police chiefs, and governors.

Dudung said Prabowo was concerned about haze affecting neighbors such as Singapore and Malaysia.

“Peatlands are difficult to extinguish, but we are making efforts,” he said.
