Drug suspect in Palawan yields P36,000 worth of suspected ‘shabu’

CALAPAN CITY, ORIENTAL MINDORO, Philippines — Police arrested a 55-year-old man and seized 5.28 grams of suspected “shabu” (crystal meth) with an estimated street value of P35,904 during an anti-illegal drug operation in Linapacan, Palawan, on Saturday, Sept. 26.

The Police Regional Office Mimaropa said the operation was conducted at about 10 a.m. in Purok 5, Barangay San Miguel, by personnel of the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU), Linapacan Municipal Police Station, Palawan Provincial Police Office’s Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit and Provincial Intelligence Unit.

The operation was coordinated with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office Mimaropa.

Police said the suspect was arrested after he allegedly sold a heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing 1.30 grams of suspected shabu to an undercover officer in exchange for P2,000 in marked money.

A subsequent search allegedly yielded two more heat-sealed sachets containing a combined 3.98 grams of suspected shabu.

The total seized substance was estimated at 5.28 grams, with a street value of P35,904, according to police.

The suspect is facing complaints for alleged violations of Sections 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The complaints were being prepared for filing before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor.

PRO Mimaropa Director Brig. Gen. Christopher Dela Cruz said sustained law enforcement operations and coordination among government agencies were necessary to address the illegal drug trade. /cb
