Tiafoe makes semis with stunning US Open comeback last done by Federer

Translate

Frances Tiafoe battled back from a two-set deficit to beat Alex Michelsen 5-7, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6 (6) in an All-American quarterfinal Tuesday at the US Open.

Tiafoe returns to the semifinals for the first time since 2024 and awaits the winner of No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz vs. American 8-seed Ben Shelton, who play later Tuesday night on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

It was the first comeback from two sets down in a US Open men's quarterfinal since Roger Federer did so against Gael Monfils in 2014. There have been three other such occasions at Flushing Meadows in the Open era.

The last US Open men's quarterfinal to go to a deciding set tiebreak was in 2019 and also featured Monfils, against Matteo Berrettini.
