South Africa, dominantly, bowled out Australia for 295 on the last day of the second Test. They romped on to an innings and a 31-run win in the second Test on Thursday.

The Proteas forced Australia to follow on by bowling them out for just 99 in the first innings. Australia still trailed by 326 with just over a day and a half of play left. Despite trying to play for a draw on the last day, the South African bowling attack proved too powerful for the Australian batters.

Australia’s hopes of drawing the Test were increased when a couple of sessions were washed out on days four and five at St. George’s Park in Port Elizabeth. But the South African bowlers stuck to their game plan and took the remaining six wickets on day five for just 129 runs to close out the match.

On day five, Wiaan Mulder and Kagiso Rabada led the way for the Proteas with three and two wickets, respectively. Travis Head (121) and Scott Boland (40) tried their best for the men from down under to survive the last day, however, it was not enough, especially after the collapse in the first innings

Having suffered a heavy defeat in the first Test, South Africa, thanks to Temba Bavuma’s career-best 179, dug in to tie the series up, leading to a series-deciding third Test at Cape Town.
