International Master Anuj Shrivatri became India’s 100th Grand Master (GM) on Sunday, after winning the 7th ASEAN Plus Individual Open Chess Championship title in the Philippines.
The 22-year-old becomes the first chess player from Madhya Pradesh to achieve the required norms.
V.S. Rathnavel was confirmed as India’s 99th GM earlier in the month. He had reached the 2500 Elo rating mark at the Guwahati Smart City International Open 2026 but had to wait for FIDE’s confirmation.
He had completed the three norms in 2022 but had to wait four years to reach the required Elo rating.
