FM, UN envoy discuss latest developments in Yemen

Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Monday, September 28, 2026, met with UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg, as they discussed the latest developments in Yemen and their repercussions for regional security.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nader Zaki said that Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast position in supporting Yemen’s unity and preserving its legitimate national institutions, stressing the need to reach a peaceful solution to the crisis for restoring stability in the Arab country.

The top Egyptian diplomat highlighted the importance of Yemen’s stability to the security of the Red Sea region and regional security more broadly.

Abdelatty also expressed Egypt’s backing of all efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive political settlement that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people and safeguards the country’s resources and capabilities.

The Foreign Minister underlined the need to ensure freedom of maritime navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait, given its direct links to the global economy and its repercussions for international trade and supply chains, particularly food and energy supplies.

Grundberg posted Abdelatty on the latest updates in Yemen, as well as on the outcome of his recent endeavors and contacts aimed at containing the crisis and de-escalating tensions in the region.
