Hot pink 3D-printed gun seized south of Brisbane

A pink, 3D-printed gun seized south of Brisbane has prompted warnings from police about private firearms manufacturers.

The weapon was designed to resemble a popular children’s toy, and was part of a growing trend of illegal at-home firearms production, Senior Sergeant Michelle Blaney said.

“This seizure highlights the increasing accessibility of these devices and the ability for offenders to conceal firearms in forms that may not resemble traditionally manufactured weapons,” he said.

The gun was found in a raid at an Augustine Heights home on Tuesday, where officers seized the weapon, ammunition, drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Officers found a 38-year-old Springfield Lakes woman on Technology Drive, and took her into custody.

She was charged with 11 offences, including four counts of possessing dangerous drugs and possession of a category D/H/R weapon – which includes handguns.

The woman was expected to appear before Ipswich Magistrates Court on October 7.
