If you're a Star Wars fan, you're either eating well or not at all in various eras of the franchise. While pretty much everyone was on board with the original trilogy, the wait for the next mainline films was long, and they didn't deliver for everyone. That's even more true of the newest trilogy, which was marred by everyone being on a different wavelength.

Now that Dave Fioloni has taken over more Star Wars duties, you might feel even more connected or alienated by some newer projects, which borrow heavily from the established lore of Clone Wars​​​​​​. It's a divisive time for the series, but every so often something will come out that unites people, like Andor.

This week, we got an official announcement on X, and it indicates that Star Wars: Masters of the Force will be a pretty major release for the franchise.

Star Wars: Masters of the Force, Explained

It's hard to believe that Star Wars: The Old Republic is still around, but the game that debuted back in 2011 on PC is still active, and it's still just on PC (and Mac). BioWare handled the game for over a decade before passing it to Broadsword Online Games, and its legacy persists to this day.

Set squarely in the Old Republic era of the franchise, it explores the conflict between the Sith and the Galactic Republic, mirroring the war between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance much later in the timeline.

The Old Republic is poised to release the massive Masters of the Force update, which adds a ton more content, including Ryloth (the Twi'lek homeworld), new difficulty settings for the overworld, more ventures, an extra three-boss operation, and gameplay fixes/alterations.

In case you aren't caught up, here's what's currently going on in the Old Republic universe: "Darth Malgus’s legacy has been broadcast to every Force-sensitive being across the galaxy, sowing chaos and unrest in its wake. Will this message inspire hope, fear, or vengeance? For good or ill, the Galaxy is forever changed. We will explore the “Galaxy in Chaos” storyline and the consequences of Malgus’s actions and the rising unrest spreading across the Republic and the Sith Empire later this year."

Ryloth in particular sounds like a blast to explore given that it's a hostile planet, and you'll find run-ins with the Hutt Cartel in the process. This release has tons of classic Star Wars references baked into it, which is why people are so excited.

Star Wars Has Some Projects On The Way

Some quality-of-life updates are coming to Star Wars: The Old Republic as well, including a level cap increase to 85. New abilities will be added across all Disciplines, including combat balance updates, an "improved leveling experience," a new gearing system, and more. It's a tall order, but the game has been around long enough to deliver on most of these.

For Star Wars fans, there isn't much coming to the big screen anytime soon, outside of Star Wars: Starfighter, which is currently set for a May 28, 2027 release. The Old Republic could help scratch that itch until then.
