SPR: Postal voting applications for Melaka polls open today

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 —Applications for all categories of domestic and overseas postal voting for the 16th Melaka State Election open today.

Election Commission (EC) secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said all applications must be submitted online via the MySPR portal at https://myspr.spr.gov.my, with the closing date to be announced later.

“Eligible voters who intend to cast their ballots by post must register for or have an existing MySPR account before submitting their application,” he said in a statement today.

Khairul Shahril said applications under Category 1A cover police and military personnel, election officials, EC members and staff, as well as media personnel.

Applications are also open for Category 1B, for Malaysians residing abroad, and Category 1C, for agencies or organisations.

Yesterday, Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly, effective today, to pave the way for the 16th state election, following the consent of Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Ali Rustam.

Melaka State Assembly Speaker Datuk Ibrahim Durum also submitted the dissolution notice to the EC yesterday.

In the 15th Melaka State Election on Nov 20, 2021, Barisan Nasional (BN) won 21 of the 28 state seats to form the state government with a more than two-thirds majority, while Pakatan Harapan secured five seats and Perikatan Nasional two. — Bernama
